Q&A journalism for music mag

Transcript with new singer Mya

What made you want to be in the music industry?

‘When i was younger i would always sing songs and put on little shows for my family so music had been in me from a young age, then when i got older i realised that’s what i want my career to be and at that time in the 90’s when In my opinion meaningful music was being made and my inspiration was singers like Aaliyah, Faith evans etc.’

How did you come about getting signed to Warner music group?

‘I started off making youtube videos of a mix between covers of songs and  some of my own and they ended up being more popular than i thought they would be. The viewers kept requesting more so i delivered and one day i got a comment from Warner asking me to contact them.

I couldn’t believe it so i called them straight away and they asked me to come and perform for them which went very well and they offered me a record deal, but i haven’t forgot about the viewers that helped me get here so i will still continue uploading video’s for them’

What were your worse and best subjects in school?

‘Well I absolutely hated maths and P.E I just couldn’t get my head round it, it just didn’t make sense to me which explained the D I got in it and P.E just wasn’t my thing, i was always the last person to be picked for teams because i wasn’t good at anything to do with running but I loved music of course because I could just express myself through my singing and also was quite good at art.’

What do you do in your spare time when you’re not singing?

‘I love to draw and paint most of the canvases in my flat are ones I have drawn and painted myself and also not much people know this but i love games I have my xbox and ps3 in my flat and I just sit there playing cod, halo, assassins creed, fifa, dance central and loads of other games’

What are your favourite movies?

‘I absolutely love dance films so I would have to say you got served, the dances they do are just amazing , action films because i love the fighting scenes and the blood and gore and of course musicals because i love the singing’

Do you get used to being a celebrity?

‘No well i haven’t i still find it weird that i have fans and paparazzi when this time last year i was just a normal girl doing cover videos in my bedroom, it’s still so overwhelming’

What do you think of your fellow UK artists?

‘I think we’re all getting there I mean America has always been the best but n-dubz, one direction, chip etc. seem to be making it over there so the UK acts are doing good for them selves and i just hope to follow in their footsteps’

What advice could you two give to other people trying to make it?

‘I would say just follow your dreams and never give up, if you want it that bad you will do everything you can to get it and eventually you will make it’

Do you have any upcoming concerts or gigs?

‘Yes i have a concert coming up next year in march the tickets go on sale from next week Tuesday so i’m hoping it is successful’

  1. Well done Tashana you have produced some good work here. The blog is well organised but ensure you label it all. Also show more audience feedback.
